Hydrodynamic fluctuation forces

چکیده
Two interaction mechanisms of particles in a fluid are proposed on base of forces, mediated by hydrodynamic thermal fluctuations. The first one is similar to the conventional van der Waals interaction, but instead of been mediated by electromagnetic fluctuations, it is mediated by fluctuations of hydrodynamic sound waves. The second one is due to a thermal drift of particles to the region with a bigger effective mass, which is formed by the involved surrounding fluid and depends on an inter-particle distance. The both mechanisms likely can be relevant in interpretation of the observed long-range attraction of colloidal particles, since a set of different experiments shows the attraction energy of the order of kBT and, perhaps, only a fluctuation mechanism of attraction provides this universality. Hydrodynamic fluctuation-induced forces in confined fluids.
We study thermal, fluctuation-induced hydrodynamic interaction forces in a classical, compressible, viscous fluid confined between two rigid, planar walls with no-slip boundary conditions. We calculate hydrodynamic fluctuations using the linearized, stochastic Navier-Stokes formalism of Landau and Lifshitz. The mean fluctuation-induced force acting on the fluid boundaries vanishes in this syste...
متن کاملBosonizations, Vicinal Surfaces, and Hydrodynamic Fluctuation Theory
We relate bosonic density uctuations of a Fermi uid in one dimension to surface uctuations. Thereby we easily identify the parameters governing the low energy, Luttinger liquid behavior. In particular we recover the Haldane relation in case the surface is tilted only transversely to the Euclidean time direction. We develop a hydrodynamic uctuation theory for the world lines of particles. Since ...
متن کاملHydrodynamic Interactions Introduce Differences in the Behaviour of a Ratchet Dimer Brownian Motor
We use the Brownian dynamics with hydrodynamic interactions simulation in order to describe the movement of an elastically coupled dimer Brownian motor in a ratchet potential. The only external forces considered in our system were the load, the random thermal noise and an unbiased thermal fluctuation. We observe differences in the dynamic behaviour if hydrodynamic interactions are considered as...
متن کاملNumerical Solution for Gate Induced Vibration Due to Under Flow Cavitation
Among the many force s to which hydraulic structures are exposed to, the forces induced by cavitation incident are of typical hydrodynamic unknown forces. The aim of this study is to define these forces as coupled fluid-structure interaction under two dynamic effects. The first dynamic effect which incorporates facilities for dealing with cavitation fluid is based on the appearance and bursting...
متن کاملBosonization, vicinal surfaces, and hydrodynamic fluctuation theory.
Through a Euclidean path integral we establish that the density fluctuations of a Fermi fluid in one dimension are related to vicinal surfaces and to the stochastic dynamics of particles interacting through long range forces with inverse distance decay. In the surface picture one easily obtains the Haldane relation, and identifies the scaling exponents governing the low energy, Luttinger liquid...
